There could be a new Captain Blood Movie. Warner Brothers are planning to make a ‘remake’ of the Errol Flynn Classic ‘Captain Blood’. My Captain Blood is a different animal to that played so well by Errol Flynn. Mine is a ‘thinker and planner’ he leaves the swordplay to Michael Fane and Simon Lovelock. The soon to be most notorious ‘lovable executioners’ in fiction history. Those of you who have been reading ‘The Adventures of Michael Fane published in my own name David Castle, will see that I regularly use the fictional character Peter Blood alias ‘Captain Blood’. I recently tried making contact with the ‘Sabatini Society’ http://www.rafaelsabatini.com/rssindex.html Unforunately the links there are down. However, I now provide the wording and the ethics of the Society.
The Rafael Sabatini Society was established in 2006 to promote the work of one of the last of the great writers of romance and adventure.
Membership in the Society is free and open to anyone with an interest in the writer and his work.
Future projects of the Society include publishing a definitive bibliography of Sabatini’s books and short stories, developing material for reading circles, offering a speakers bureau for interested audiences, and seeking other opportunities for promoting Rafael Sabatini. Indeed, any project that encourages and promotes the work of Rafael Sabatini is welcome.

Now, interestingly enough, Rafael Sabatini as wonderful writer as he was, based his character Peter Blood as a Doctor who attended the wounded on both sides during and after The Battle of Sedgemoor. An original idea?
No, he may have used the character from W.Bourne Cooke’s book ‘The Black Box’ and I quote from that book -
”Many of the prisoners were sick, and some still suffering from wounds. Amongst these moved a grey haired gentleman. endeavouring by word and touch, to give relief. His name was Dr. Temple, and he told me that he hailed from Nottingham, but had been in the Netherlands some years; that when Monmouth’s expedition sailed hence he had shipped as surgeon, being told that they were bound for western seas. At Sedgemoor he had worked zealously among the wounded of both sides - and this was his reward’. According to my research there was in fact a ‘real’ Doctor Peter Blood living at that time and in the West Country.
Exactly the same as his story! SO, before anyone leaps up and screams ‘Plagliarism’all I have done is to maintain the name. My Peter Blood is not the swashbuckling type, he has Simon and Michael!
